Colorful Granny Square Blanket Pattern

Create a warm, inviting, and colorful granny square blanket that is perfect for adding a touch of handmade charm to your home. This project is beginner-friendly, using basic crochet stitches to produce a stunning array of colors and textures.

Materials

  • Worsted weight yarn in multiple colors: blue, red, yellow, brown, green, white, and mustard.
  • Crochet hook size H/8 (5.0 mm).
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
  • Scissors.

Gauge

Each granny square measures approximately 4 inches x 4 inches.

Abbreviations

  • ch = chain
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • dc = double crochet

Instructions

  1. Start with a magic ring: Ch 4 (counts as first dc and ch-1). Work 3 dc into ring, ch 1. Repeat (3 dc, ch 1) 2 more times. Join with sl st to third ch of beginning ch-4. You should have four 3-dc clusters separated by ch-1 spaces.
  2. Round 2: Sl st into the next ch-1 space. Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc into same ch-1 space, ch 1. *(3 dc, ch 1) in next ch-1 space*. Repeat from * to * around. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch-3.
  3. Round 3: Sl st into next two dc and into the first ch-1 space. Ch 3, 2 dc in same space, ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 1) in the next ch-1 space*. Repeat from * to * around. Join with sl st to the top of beginning ch-3.
  4. Add new colors: Fasten off and weave in ends. Join new color in any ch-1 space and repeat Round 3. Continue changing colors and repeating Round 3 until your square reaches the desired size, or repeat as one continuous piece across blanket size.
  5. Finishing: Once you have your desired number of squares, join them together using your preferred joining method (slip stitch, single crochet, or whip stitch).
  6. Border: With your chosen border color, single crochet around the entire blanket edge, placing 3 sc in each corner. Work as many rows as desired to achieve the border width you like.
  7. Weave in all ends: Use tapestry needle to weave in all loose yarn ends to create a neat finish.

You have completed your colorful granny square blanket! Perfect for snuggling up on chilly days or draping over a sofa or chair for an added splash of color.
